To Shred Or Not To Shred?

Choosing to invest in a packaging material shredder can be an easy choice to make. It is the ideal way to create your own free packaging material whilst also reducing disposal costs and the inconvenience of dealing with cardboard you no longer need.

The Intimus brand is the only choice for this type of machinery, but how do you choose which model will be right for you and your business? This Holmes Mann comparison guide should be able to help.

Which Intimus Shredder

You will need to consider the dimensions of your available workspace and the size of your operation in order to decide on the best Intimus shredder for you. The PacMate is the smallest option available from Holmes Mann, offering a table-top compact machine that may be small but is still big when it comes to performance. It measures just 53cm (width) by 30cm (depth) by 38cm (height), whilst weighing in at a very convenient and manoeuvrable 38g (net).

The Intimus PacMaster S and the PacMaster VS, meanwhile, are identical in size. They both have a net weight of 140kg and have wheels to increase manoeuvrability, whilst measuring 69cm by 47cm by 95cm. They both have a cutting feed width of 425mm, although the Intimus PacMaster S has a cutter-feed height of 13mm or 16mm, compared to the VS’ height of 15mm. Both of these models offer the same size of pad grid at 4mm by 110mm. In comparison, the PacMate has a 3.8mm by 112 mm grid.

The PacMaster S has a cutting capacity of two to three layers, the VS offers a three-layer cutting capacity, whilst the PacMate is limited to one 4mm layer. The overall capacity of the S in metres cubed is five to seven, compared to seven to 11 for the VS and 1.2 for the PacMate.

The S can cut 0.18m per second, which is slightly slower than the top rate of the VS of 0.29m per second, but considerably more than its lowest rate of 0.09m. The PacMate, meanwhile, can cut at 0.13m a second. The VS is boosted by added power thanks to a Martin Yale International Vario Speed electronic gearbox.

The power consumption of the PacMaster S has been measured at 3.9kW with a 400 volt supply, whilst the VS has a consumption level of 2.5kW and a supply voltage of 230. The PacMate consumes 1.1kW and has the same supply voltage as the VS.
